Below are some FAQs that may answer some questions for you.
Does it cost anything to go to Al-Anon? No, it's free but we are self-supporting so we do accept donations from our members who are able to cover things like rent, books, literature, conventions, etc. There is no pressure ever.
Is Al-Anon a religious group? No, it's a spiritually based program that encouraged each member to find their own higher power whatever that might be for them. We are not affiliated with any sec, denomination or religious entity.
Can I bring my children to meetings? Al-Anon does not say no to bringing children to meetings. It's up to each group to determine whether why want to allow children in their meetings are not. The content in meetings can be sensitive, people cry, it is a place of healing and growth. There are also times people will share things that might be difficult for even adults to hear and not be appropriate for little ears. Some groups have spaces large enough that children can sit far enough away to color or put in ear buds. In our handbook, if no other option is available a group conscience can be done to discuss hiring a babysitter during the time of the meeting paid for by the group. The sitter will watch the infant at the meeting location during the time of the meeting so the Parent can participate fully in the meeting.
